Introducing Fourth Trimester Care at Origin

Our mission at Origin is to help our patients feel their best through every stage of life, especially through pregnancy and postpartum. Getting expert care from a physical therapist after childbirth can lead to lasting mental and physical benefits, but there’s very limited PT care available and a lack of standardized protocols. So after six months in development with our clinical team, we're excited to share the launch of our Fourth Trimester Care, now available nationwide.

“We provide what we believe to be the best foundational care for early postpartum recovery, what every birthing person deserves as part of their healing journey,” says Liz Miracle, PT, MSPT, WCS, Head of Clinical Quality at Origin. “Our care is rooted in evidence-based PT and is flexible enough to meet each patient's unique goals.”

Available online and in-person, and in-network with most insurance plans, when we talk about our work toward improving the standard of postpartum care, this is it.

What’s included for every patient:

  • 1:1 in-person or virtual visits with a pelvic floor PT
  • Evaluation & treatment for pain & injuries
  • Pelvic floor & whole body strengthening
  • A personalized exercise program, updated weekly
  • Comprehensive educational resources
  • A digital dashboard with daily progress tracking

From guiding patients through assessments for pelvic floor dysfunction and diastasis recti to helping them move without pain, support bladder and bowel health, and return safely to exercise, our PTs take a whole-body approach that covers a broad spectrum of early postpartum healing.

Lasting Pain & Symptoms Shouldn’t be The Norm

Few postpartum individuals realize that physical therapy is not only a first-line treatment for many common symptoms, it can help prevent these issues from happening in the first place. Without this care, every year, millions of women suffer from life-disrupting issues that could have been addressed early on or avoided altogether.

  • 1 in 3 women have urinary incontinence at 3 months postpartum
  • 1 in 3 women have pain with sex at 6 months postpartum
  • 1 in 3 women have diastasis recti at 1 year postpartum
  • 2 in 5 women continue to have pelvic girdle pain at 12 years postpartum
  • 1 in 10 women who deliver via Cesarean have chronic scar pain at 6 months postpartum
Too many of us assume that these symptoms are normal and inevitable after having a baby, but that’s absolutely not the case

“Too many of us assume that these symptoms are normal and inevitable after having a baby, but that’s absolutely not the case,” says Ashley Rawlins, DPT, PT & Clinical Learning and Development Lead at Origin. “Seeing a pelvic PT can help you restore balance and strength in your body to help protect against these vulnerabilities, improve symptoms, and prevent further injury.”

Fourth Trimester Care That Patients Love to Share

At Origin, we’ve treated more than 15,000 women and individuals with vaginal anatomy, with 1 in 5 coming to us for postpartum care, and over 50% of patients choosing to get virtual care. In a recent survey, 9 out of 10 postpartum patients said they reached their treatment goals with Origin and would recommend our care to other postpartum moms.

“I was dealing with diastasis recti, severe pelvic organ prolapse, as well as some less sexy symptoms like fecal incontinence,” says Origin patient Allie Dalglish. “My Origin physical therapist helped me emotionally and mentally as well as physically, to keep me motivated on those days when physical therapy was the last thing on my mind. I consider her a core member of my support team as I heal and recover from childbirth.”

With the launch of our standardized Fourth Trimester Care, we’re more passionate than ever about bringing this care to as many postpartum individuals as possible and continuing to set the bar for clinical protocols.
